SMART Notebook 8.1Dec 28 - 12:28The activities on the following pages are intended first to help children make notes, and then write a piece of explanatory writing on the water cycle. Go to www.brainpop.com and select Science and the Water Cycle movie. Tell the children that they are going to have to make notes on what they see. Play themovie once all the way through. Play it a second time, pausing at key pictures so that the children have time to make notes. NB You will only be able to play the movie twice unless you are a subscriber. Look at the pictures on page 2 and ask children what notes they have for each one. Move one picture at a time onto page 3, and write notes alongside. Advise on eliminating non-essential words and also possible abbreviations. If desired, once finished, take a screen capture of notes for future reference. Page 5 has a skeleton for a piece of explanatory writing. The number of frames do not correspond exactly to the number of pictures as it is intended that the teacher will model first few stages and the children will complete the rest in pairs. There are some suggestions for linking words and phrases, though these are not associated with particular frames in order to avoid being too prescriptive.(You can add to these if you wish.) You may want to create more frames, or you may wish to delete some. In order to begin writing inside a frame you will have to select abc from the toolbar and click inside the frame. (A text frame then appears.)NOTES FOR TEACHERSDec 28 - 12:06
